I could not imagine a nicer way to start my birthday than to come to Paris and listen to the first rehearsal of the ONF Beethoven cycle with Kurt Masur! During next couple of weeks the Parisians will have the privilege to hear all symphonies and concertos by Beethoven as well as most of the overtures too. I have the added bonus to be able to follow the whole rehearsal process as Kurt Masur's assistant. Today's rehearsal was already very exciting: to keep up the continuous rhythmic flow and interpret all the rhythms, fortepianos and sforzatos correctly makes a big difference in this music! Routine is the worst enemy of Beethoven!
